So what happened in the Noughties? Here is video to refresh you on what happened in the decade.
Firstly, put this on, and you'll feel like you're back in the noughties!
Fashion in the 2000s
In this decade, fashion was often a 'mash-up' of previous styles and subcultured styles eg Indie-pop.
The mid to the end of the 2000s, people often wore recycled vintage styles that were popular in the 40s, 50s, 60s & 80s.
Fashions that were prominent in the 2000s were Ugg boots, high tops, hoodies and skinny jeans.
However, a new breed of eco-friendly and ethical clothing were born- fairtrade.
The summer of 2007 saw an incline of interest of eastern and fair trade fashion. Fashions from places like India and the Middle East. These fashions included harem pants, gypsy tops and sarongs.
Leading Fashion Designers in the noughties
Many fashion designers such as Alexander McQueen, Vivienne Westwood and Vera Wang were ahead of everyone else in the fashion world, and many manufacturers copied and reproduced their work.
Mid 2000s- Boho Chic
From 2004 onwards, women started to wear low-rise skinny jeans, knee high boots and trench coats. Also, they wore thin belts along with long blouses and tunics. This look was called the 'Boho Chic'. People also wore dresses that were inspired by Christian Dior's 'New Look' with sandals in the summertime.
The late Noughties
At the beginning of 2006, men and womens fashions became influenced by 1980s punk. Fashions such as acid wash skinny jeans and neon colours became especially popular. Shirts and jeans had rips in them which were held together by safety pins. Also, leather jackets made a comeback.
By 2008, these looks had become 'mainstream' due to popularity of indie pop and new wave music. People started to wear more general items of 80s streetwear, for example; denim print leggings (commonly known as jeggings) and knitted sweater dresses.
Youth fashion was heavily influenced on music-based subcultures for example, The Emo.
'Emo' is is a ''style of rock music characterized by melodic musicianship and expressive, often confessional lyrics. '' (wikipedia).
Bands such as My Chemical Romance (MCR) and Fall Out Boy (FOB)
The Chav Subculture
In the early 2000s, one of the most common British subcultures were the chavs.
Chavs favoured burberry print baseball hats and scarfs, tracksuits and white nike, addidas or reebok trainers.
Moshers were seen as a rival subculture to the Chavs. Moshers were usually skaters who had long hair or sometimes dreadlocks. They wore grunge inspired checked flannel shirts with baggy jeans as they were less likely to rip during skating. Brands like No Fear were very popular between the Moshers.
